Erie County and e2Companies Complete Major Energy Resiliency Project at Edward A. Rath County Office Building

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla., Sept. 22, 2026 — e2Companies, a leading provider of integrated power generation and distribution solutions, today announced the successful commissioning of its Virtual Utility® platform at the Edward A. Rath County Office Building in Buffalo, New York. Developed in partnership with the Erie County Department of Public Works and 34 Group, the project modernizes the building’s electrical infrastructure and delivers 2 megawatts (MW) of resilient, on-site power to support critical county operations.

As the administrative headquarters of Erie County government, the Rath Building required a long-term solution to address aging electrical infrastructure and growing energy demands. Erie County selected e2Companies’ patented R3Di® System to enhance resiliency, improve power quality and support future growth while reducing dependence on lengthy traditional utility infrastructure upgrades.

The R3Di® System delivers 2 MW of conditioned, on-site power through e2Companies’ patented dual-inversion architecture. Grove365®, the company’s intelligent energy platform, continuously monitors grid conditions, weather and energy pricing to optimize system performance in real time.

“This project demonstrates how communities can modernize critical infrastructure without waiting years for traditional grid expansion,” said James Richmond, chief executive officer of e2Companies. “By deploying intelligent, resilient power at the Rath Building, Erie County is strengthening essential public services while preparing for future energy demands.”

“We’re proud to partner with Erie County and e2Companies on a project that demonstrates what is possible through collaboration,” said Thurman Thomas, president of 34 Group. “This deployment strengthens critical infrastructure and lays the foundation for future resiliency projects across Western New York.”

“This investment strengthens the resiliency of one of Erie County’s most important public buildings while supporting the essential services our residents depend on every day,” said William Geary, commissioner of the Erie County Department of Public Works. “We appreciate the partnership with e2Companies and 34 Group in delivering an innovative solution that prepares our public infrastructure for future demands.”

The project was supported through a collaborative effort involving Erie County, National Grid and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), as well as federal incentives available through the Inflation Reduction Act. Together, these resources helped maximize public investment while improving energy resilience and operational reliability.

The Rath Building installation marks the first major milestone in e2Companies’ long-term partnership with Erie County to evaluate and deploy additional distributed energy and resiliency solutions across the county’s public facilities. The initiative creates a scalable model to help governments modernize aging infrastructure, improve energy resilience and strengthen critical public services across Western New York and beyond.
